Rainfall is practically non-existent during this time, so I always get plenty of sunny days and clear skies. The gentle trade winds are my favorite touch to the Caribbean in January. The conditions are great for water sports, snorkeling, and simply basking in the beauty of Aruba’s stunning beaches.

Average Temperatures

Aruba experiences warm weather in January, with an average maximum daytime temperature of 26.4°C (79.52°F). It’s typically the coldest month of the year, dropping down to 25.3°C (77.54°F) at night.

But don’t worry! It’s still warm enough to jump in the water to snorkel or hang out on the beach.

Average Rainfall

Rainfall in January is some of the lowest of the year! You’ll only see about 1.3 inches of rain 33mm (1.3 inches), spread across 8 or so days during the month. Like most Caribbean islands, the trade winds in January usually help pass these short spurts of rain quickly.

January is Aruba Carnival Season!

January in Aruba is all about the Carnival Season. It’s a time when the island comes alive with celebration, music, and cultural festivities. The party starts on January 1st and goes on until the beginning of Lent.

You’ll see people of all ages coming together to join in the celebrations, creating a lively Caribbean party atmosphere that matches the passion seen during a World Cup in Europe!

If you haven’t experienced Aruba’s carnival, you’re missing out on a serious part of the island’s culture that truly comes alive during this time.

2. Explore Arikok National Park

Exploring Arikok National Park in January is an ideal adventure for nature enthusiasts. With the perfect weather that January brings to Aruba, this is the perfect time to explore the rugged landscapes and diverse ecosystems of the park.

Even better – you need a jeep or ATV to get around the park. I took a jeep tour around the island. This is one of the most memorable experiences I had on the island. We took a half day tour around the park, beaches, and some of the top attractions around the island.

Note: We stayed on path. Going off path can have negative effects on the island’s landscape. If you choose to do this, make sure you respect Aruba’s land and flora.

The temperatures are comfortable for outdoor activities – so you can hike the park’s trails, discover unique rock formations, and witness stunning vistas.

The mild climate and absolutely lovely weather make exploring Arikok National Park’s desert terrain, caves, and coastal areas even better.

Visitors can also observe the park’s diverse flora and fauna, which thrive during this season. From colorful cacti to indigenous wildlife, Arikok National Park offers a captivating experience that showcases the island’s natural beauty and conservation efforts.

Other beaches like Mango Alto, Arashi (two of my favorite for snorkeling), Manchebo, Baby Beach, and Boca Cataline offer a variety of experiences - spotting sea turtles, soft white sand, watersports, and more.

January is considered peak season, but right after the holidays, sometimes the crowds cool down for a short time. Either way, the beaches are so peaceful - you’ll be able to fully enjoy the beauty of each beach.

Whether you're seeking tranquility or adventure, beach hopping in January offers an unforgettable opportunity to soak up the Caribbean sun and savor the natural beauty of Aruba's coastline.

Aruba in January is Not for You if…

Aruba in January offers a paradise-like escape for many seeking sun-soaked relaxation and outdoor adventures.

However, it might not be the ideal destination for everyone. If you're someone who prefers warmer temperatures and avoids crowds, Aruba's peak tourist season in January might not align with your preferences.

sunset over the beach in aruba from a jeep

The island's average temperatures, ranging from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F), might be too cold for those who enjoy beachier climates. Additionally, if you're not fond of bustling tourist activities and seek quieter destinations, the higher number of visitors in January might hinder your island experience.

There are plenty of quieter destinations in January, such as St John USVI and Turks and Caicos.

Aruba's charm lies in its vibrant atmosphere and various attractions, so if you're looking for a more secluded or off-the-beaten-path destination, January in Aruba might not be the best fit.

Also, if you're not into exploring diverse landscapes through outdoor activities like sunset sails, off-road tours, or sunbathing on pristine beaches, the island's offerings might not align with your vacation preferences.

While Aruba is a fantastic destination for many, it's worth considering these factors so that your travel plans match your individual tastes and desires.

    Best Time to Visit Aruba

The best time to visit Aruba is between November and June, when the island is at peak tourist season! This means restaurants, hotels, and tours are open and thriving this time of year.

Aruba's weather throughout these months is nothing short of spectacular, with temperatures ranging from the low 80s to the mid-90s Fahrenheit (27-35°C) and minimal rainfall, unlike the rainier, mountainous islands of St Kitts and St Lucia.

arikok national park rock formations on the beach in aruba

This guarantees a steady stream of sunny days and warm evenings, providing an excellent setting for beach relaxing, snorkeling, and exploring the island's natural beauties.

I'd also recommend checking out Aruba's sister island Bonaire for diving or Curacao for even more spectacular beaches.

Additionally, this period comes with Aruba's lively carnival season (January), a cultural spectacle marked by vibrant parades and musical events.

Divers and snorkelers can enjoy excellent underwater visibility due to low winds - meaning the best opportunity to see a variety of marine life under the beautifully clear waters!

With an amazing combination of weather, celebrations, marine marvels, and engaging culture, you can't go wrong visiting Aruba during it's most popular season.

    Worst Time to Visit Aruba

While Aruba is a captivating destination all year, there are certain seasons that might not align with everyone's travel preferences.

The worst time to visit Aruba, in my opinion, is September and October. It is HOT and HUMID! I sometimes struggle with the heat in the Caribbean during the breezier months, so finding myself in a heat wave in Aruba is a worst-case scenario for me.

Aruba experiences its hottest temperatures during these months, with daily averages reaching into the mid-90s Fahrenheit (35°C). The combination of high temperatures and high humidity levels can make outdoor activities less comfortable, particularly for those not used to such heat.

However, these months are lower visited, meaning fewer crowds and quieter evenings!

Another season to consider avoiding is the peak of the hurricane season, which typically runs from June through November. While Aruba is outside the hurricane belt (same with sister ABC islands Bonaire and Curacao, with the same low rain) and has a relatively low risk of direct hits, the Caribbean region can still experience unpredictable weather during this time, including heavy rainfall and occasional stormy conditions.

Just recently, Aruba got hit with a tropical storms and I noticed people quickly panicking to try to find things to add to your Aruba itinerary in the rain. So, set a game plan for rainy days in Aruba, or purchase travel insurance so you can reschedule your trip in a worst case scenario.

Additionally, if you're someone who prefers a more tranquil and less crowded experience, it's advisable to avoid the peak tourist season, especially in December and March.

These months attract a rush of visitors seeking a getaway from colder climates, spring breakers, more crowded beaches, fully booked accommodations, and potentially higher prices for flights and lodging.

If you're looking to explore Aruba on a budget, you might want to avoid the peak tourist season of November to June. Accommodation prices tend to be higher during this time due to the increased demand.

However, the "worst" time to visit Aruba is subjective and depends on your individual preferences. It's essential to weigh factors such as weather, crowds, and your preferred activities when planning your trip to ensure you have the most enjoyable and memorable experience possible.

Best Area to Stay in Aruba

Aruba offers two prime locations to stay: Eagle Beach & Palm Beach in Noord, just 3 miles from the capital, Oranjestad.

Known for its beaches with pristine white sand and crystal clear waters, Eagle Beach is perfect for families and couples or honeymooners seeking a quieter oasis.

Meanwhile, Palm Beach is the place to be for singles and groups seeking an exciting nightlife experience - lined with resorts, restaurants, and bars.

Best Places to Stay in Aruba

There are many resorts and villas around Aruba to choose from. Here are a few of my top picks!

What to Pack for Aruba in January

    ✅ Breathable Sports Gator

Sports gators or bandanas will keep the winds and dirt dust out of your face. This brand keeps my face warm during ski season and cool during hiking season! Whether you're ATVing Aruba or ziplining in Belize, this will come in handy.

    ☀️Reef Safe Sunscreen

Reef-safe sunscreen is required by law in most Caribbean islands. Be aware that just because it says "reef-safe" doesn't mean it is! Check the reef-safe.org guide to be sure you're buying sunscreen that will protect the beautiful Caribbean coral reefs.

    🤿Snorkel Gear!

Some of these tours include jumping into coral reefs and warm clear waters! While they usually include snorkeling gear, often they don't fit right or leak. I prefer to bring my own!

Then, I have the option of snorkeling whenever I want, not just on the tour! A friend turned me on to Cressi's snorkeling gear a while ago. I've snorkeled in Turks and Caicos, Aruba, Grand Cayman, and other Caribbean islands and this gear always pulls through.

    🤢Sea Bands or Dramamine

If you're anything like me, you'll want sea bands or some motion sickness relief. Dramamine Non-Drowsy with Natural Ginger is my go-to for planes, jeeps, and boats. If you catch a day when the waters are rough, it can easily ruin your snorkeling experience.

    📷 GoPro!

Phones have great built-in cameras these days, a GoPro can be really helpful for recording memories without having to worry about your phone all day! I recently invested in a GoPro 10 and it has been a game-changer for making memories.

Plus, you likely don't want to worry about your phone in the water. It's easy to strap on your GoPro and capture memories without worrying about a thing.

    🌊Floating Waterproof Phone Case

If you don't want to commit to a GoPro, a waterproof and floating phone case will do the trick! I love being able to capture memories on land and in the water! I didn't want to bring a good camera on my Stingray City tour in Grand Cayman, so I used this, and it worked great.

    ☁️Sand Cloud Quick Dry Towel

I don't go to any beach without my Turkish quick dry towel. You've likely heard about them from Shark Tank a long time ago. I HATE sand. So, a towel that dries quickly and shakes the sand out easily is the towel for me.
