St Thomas, on the other hand, offers an amazing selection of beaches and mountainous terrain (not as mountainous as St Lucia though) for hiking and spectacular lookout points.
From the calm waters at Magens Bay Beach (one of my favorite beaches in USVI) to the clear blue sea at Coki Point Beach, there are plenty of picturesque spots to explore. Plus, there’s lots of shopping around Charlotte Amalie and charters available for deep-sea fishing or snorkeling trips.
Both islands are safe, though there are some areas to avoid in each, especially at night.
About St Maarten
When it comes to tropical getaways, St. Maarten is a slice of paradise that never fails to impress. As soon as I stepped foot on this island gem, I was greeted by warm breezes, crystal-clear waters, and a vibrant atmosphere that instantly put me in vacation mode.

And let’s not forget the incredible beaches! From the famous Maho Beach, where planes fly right above your head, to the tranquil shores of Cupecoy Bay, St. Maarten boasts some of the most stunning stretches of sand I’ve ever seen.
Is St Martin in the Virgin Islands? No! If you see Saint Martin Virgin Islands somewhere – it’s wrong. There are four US Virgin Islands, and Sint Maarten isn’t one of them!
About St Thomas
St. Thomas, the Caribbean jewel that had me falling head over flip-flops in love with its undeniable charm. And when I finally set foot on this island paradise, I was captivated by its breathtaking beauty and laid-back vibes.

Is St Maarten or St Thomas Better for Island Hopping?
If you're craving an island-hopping adventure, both St. Maarten and St. Thomas offer fantastic options. But in my opinion, St Thomas takes the win.
From St. Maarten, you can easily hop over to the nearby islands of Anguilla, Saba, and St. Barths, each with its own unique charm.
On the other hand, St. Thomas served as an excellent base for exploring the captivating U.S. Virgin Islands, including St. John and Water Island. PS: I never make a trip to St Thomas without planning a day or two in St John.
St Croix is farther, but you can still island hop via plane from St Thomas to St Croix.
And of course, St Thomas also offers the chance to island hop to British Virgin Islands as well. But if you choose this option - don't forget your passport.
