But that’s not all! St. Lucia has a bunch of other cool stuff too. There are hot springs and mud baths that you can enjoy for a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
And the coastline is just as awesome! The coral reefs in the clear blue waters are full of colorful marine life, making it a dream come true for snorkelers and scuba divers. And if you love hiking, the mountain ranges offer some of the best views you’ll ever see.
And of course, let’s not forget about the beaches! They are absolutely breathtaking with soft, powdery sand and the bluest water you can imagine. And guess what? There are even enchanting waterfalls hidden in the greenery!
The official language in St. Lucia is English, but many people also speak the native Creole/Patois language. The local currency is the East Caribbean dollar (EC$), but you’ll find that the US dollar is widely accepted across the island.

Is St Lucia expensive? A common question. Actually, when it comes to cost, St. Lucia tends to be a bit cheaper compared to Aruba.
The airfare to St. Lucia is generally cheaper, especially depending on the airline you choose.
Additionally, you can discover more affordable hotels in St. Lucia, although there are also luxurious St Lucia resorts available if you’re willing to spend more. Overall, if you’re looking to save some money on your vacation, St. Lucia offers a range of options for cheaper accommodations and dining.
Aruba has tons of accommodation options, but they tend to come at a cost! St Lucia on a budget is the way to go.
And it’s important to keep in mind that no matter where you go in the Caribbean it’s going to cost a pretty penny.
Those asking, “why is St Lucia so expensive” – same with Aruba – have likely never been to Turks and Caicos or Grand Cayman. When comparing St Lucia vs Turks and Caicos and Turks and Caicos vs Aruba, St Lucia and Aruba always come out on the cheaper end.
Aruba vs St Lucia: Who has better weather?
When it comes to weather, overall, I’d say St. Lucia has better weather. BUT Aruba is located away from the hurricane belt – meaning less rainfall during hurricane season. St Lucia hurricane season runs from June-November.
Downside of Aruba – the island can get extremely hot during the summer (average temperature of 84 degrees F) due to its dry climate.
St. Lucia, on the other hand, benefits from its trees, Caribbean location, and balanced land-to-water ratio, all of which contribute to a more pleasant overall climate. The fact that Land and Sea tours are some of the most popular on the island make it one of my favorite.
If you’re okay with passing showers on a mountainous island, St Lucia may be the better choice.
During the winter season, both destinations offer fantastic weather with lots of warmth and sunshine throughout the day.
In St. Lucia, you can bask in the sunshine from the peaks of its mountains as well as on its beautiful beaches and marvel at the sunsets. While in Aruba, you can enjoy the sun from your balcony or while relaxing on its stunning beaches.
Is Aruba in the Caribbean islands if it’s located so far south? Yes! Aruba being located away from the hurricane belt actually makes it one of the best Caribbean Islands to visit for honeymoon in October.
It’s one of my favorite all times of year. Aruba in January, July, or December – you just can’t go wrong.
Aruba or St Lucia: Which is safer?
When it comes to safety, both Aruba and St. Lucia are considered to be relatively safe destinations for travelers. Both islands benefit from strong tourism industries, and the local communities depend on visitors, which often results in a welcoming and safe environment.
However, as with any travel, it’s always wise to stay informed about any current safety advisories and take standard precautions to ensure a trouble-free trip:
- Always keep your car and hotel room doors locked.
- Keep your belongings secure
- Be cautious in crowded areas (petty theft is common in both destinations, particularly in tourist areas).
- Stay in well-lit and populated areas
There are certainly things I’d recommend avoiding in both St Lucia and Aruba. Do your research first and go prepared, no matter the island!
Which island is larger?
St. Lucia is the larger of the two islands, covering an area of 238 square miles, whereas Aruba is smaller, with an area of 69.5 square miles.
Additionally, St. Lucia boasts the highest point of elevation, with Mount Gimie – an awesome but challenging hike – reaching an impressive 3,120 feet.
On the other hand, Aruba’s highest point is Mount Jamanota, standing at a height of 620 feet.
Do you need a passport to visit Aruba or St Lucia?
You need a valid passport to visit both Aruba and St. Lucia. Additionally, there are other requirements to consider before your trip.
For Aruba, travelers must obtain and fill out an Embarkation and Disembarkation Card (ED-Card), which will be provided by the airline either upon departure or upon arrival in Aruba.
Having either a return or onward ticket is also essential for entry into Aruba, and it’s advisable to arrive at the airport early to ensure a smooth departure.
Similarly, for St. Lucia, a valid passport with an expiry beyond the date of return is required for entry. You should also carry an onward or return ticket and have proof of sufficient funds for your stay.
Consider US Virgin Islands – St Thomas/St John particularly, or Puerto Rico if you don’t want to bring your passport along.

Aruba and St. Lucia have different landscapes that make them special in their own ways.
Aruba is a small, flat island known for its dry and arid environment, with cacti and deserts. So dry that one of the most popular activities is Jeeping around the island.
Despite the dryness, it boasts some of the most famous and stunning beaches in the Caribbean. The sparkling sands and clear turquoise waters have made it a favorite destination for beach lovers.
St. Lucia, on the other hand, offers a diverse and captivating geography. It’s frequently referred to as the Hawaii of the Caribbean. The island sits on a dormant volcano, creating lush and beautiful wildlife all around.
The southern side of St. Lucia is home to twin mountains called the Pitons, perfect for hiking and exploring.
The island’s rainforests provide opportunities to see wildlife and join in on guided tours, adding to the charm of this place.
However, exploring St. Lucia by car can be a bit trickier due to its mountains and rainforests, unlike the flatter Caribbean islands. Driving in Aruba is much easier.
Also, St. Lucia’s green climate attracts more bugs and mosquitoes compared to Aruba. And if there’s anything I hate about the Caribbean islands, it’s bugs.
Both islands have stunning beaches with white sands and clear blue waters, but St. Lucia stands out for its diverse terrains, making it an exciting choice for nature enthusiasts looking for different adventures.

Both St. Lucia and Aruba boast beautiful beaches, but they offer different experiences. I have to say I believe Aruba has a slight edge for the best beaches if you’re looking to relax on white sand and hang in the sun all day. They’re both so beautiful they’ve each had movies filmed on them.
Aruba is known for its stunning white-sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The beaches in Aruba are wide and expansive, and offer a sense of serenity – making them perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun.
Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are among the most famous and beloved beaches on the island, with soft sands and calm waters, ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
On the other hand, St. Lucia’s beaches have a more dramatic and picturesque setting. They don’t have the typical extensive stretches of sand as Aruba – they are surrounded by lush greenery and stunning landscapes.
Many of the beaches in St. Lucia are nestled between majestic mountains and the sparkling Caribbean Sea. Anse Chastanet and Sugar Beach are the most popular, breathtaking, and romantic beaches in St. Lucia, offering a unique tropical paradise experience.
The choice of which island has better beaches depends on personal preferences. Either way, you’ll be able to enjoy beautiful beaches on both islands.

Aruba and St. Lucia have great nightlife options that cater to all tastes, but Aruba comes out on top for this one.
Aruba boasts a lively and diverse nightlife scene, making it a top choice for those seeking a fun and energetic atmosphere.
The island is dotted with bars, clubs, and casinos that cater to all tastes. If you want to enjoy the nightlife in Aruba, I’d recommend Lucy’s Aruba and the 5 o’Clock Somewhere bar in Oranjestad. You’ll find fun sunset cruises and open bars off the coast every night of the week!
They are well-known for their lively atmosphere, and you can keep the party going all night long. Downtown Oranjestad and Noord, Aruba area also have many other fantastic venues where you can have a great time and experience the diverse and exciting nightlife of Aruba.
On the other hand, while St. Lucia may not have the same extensive nightlife scene as Aruba, it still offers enjoyable evening activities. You can find local bars and restaurants that feature live music and cultural performances, providing a more relaxed and laid-back setting for a night out.
Island Hopping on Aruba vs St Lucia
Aruba and St. Lucia both provide fantastic experiences for island hopping, but each island offers a different experience.
Traditional island hopping will be best in St Lucia – where you can take a ferry from St Lucia to Martinique, Dominica, and Guadeloupe.

Things to Do in St Lucia
1. The Pitons
These iconic twin volcanic peaks, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit attraction. If you’re an adventurous traveler, you can embark on a hike to the summits for breathtaking panoramic views of the island and the Caribbean Sea.
PS. You cannot hike the pitons alone. You can take a tour or drive yourself there – tour guides will be waiting to guide you up the mountain.
2. Drive-In Volcano (Sulphur Springs)
Experience a unique geological wonder by visiting the world’s only “drive-in” volcano in Soufrière. You can take a guided tour to witness bubbling sulphur springs and hot mineral mud baths, known for their therapeutic properties.
3. Beaches
The beaches St. Lucia offers are absolutely breathtaking. If you can’t telling, soaking on the beaches in the Caribbean is my favorite activity. Relax on the golden sands of Reduit Beach or Anse Chastanet, go snorkeling at Anse Cochon, or enjoy a peaceful escape at Marigot Bay.
