About Hawaii
Hawaii is a US state that consists of 8 main islands and is widely known for its active volcanoes, lush landscapes, and tropical climate. It’s the ultimate place to unwind on long stretches of beaches or take part in surfing during the windier months.
This destination has become increasingly popular in recent years due to it being home to the famous Waikiki Beach, the iconic Pearl Harbor, and Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve. Additionally, Hawaii is a great spot for foodies with its abundance of local seafood dishes and Hawaiian-style cuisine.
About the Caribbean
The Caribbean islands are steeped in culture and offer vacationers plenty of activities from snorkeling to sightseeing. You’ll find amazing coral reefs for snorkeling and diving, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life.
Plus there are some great golf courses and world-class resorts on each of the islands. And of course, many popular movies are filmed on these secluded islands.
The Caribbean is also known for its cultural cuisines, which include local dishes such as jerk chicken, Haitian French Toast, conch, Ultimate Ropa Vieja, and many other dishes that are influenced by Spanish, French, Haitian, and European cuisines.
Best Time to Visit Hawaii vs Caribbean
Most people don’t realize that the Caribbean and Hawaii have opposite best times to visit.
Visiting the Caribbean during winter months like January is the best way to escape the cold weather and experience the warmth it provides. This is also when the Caribbean islands experience lower humidity and little rainfall. It’s best to visit most Caribbean islands like US Virgin Islands and St Maarten in these winter months.
However, if you’re looking to experience Hawaii’s stunning beaches and unique culture, then you should aim for the summer months instead. The winter is actually Hawaii’s wettest season. With its warm but manageable summer temperatures and reduced rainfall amounts, this is the ideal time to explore what this paradise has to offer.
Weather in Hawaii vs Caribbean
The rainiest months in Hawaii are the driest in the Caribbean, so if you’re looking for a sunny vacation, the Caribbean may be a better option. Hurricane season tends to be more volatile in the Caribbean compared to Hawaii.
Climate in Hawaii
The tropical climate in Hawaii can vary from one part of the island to another. The mountains affect the tradewinds and increase humidity around the island.
Temperatures throughout the year average in the 80s, dropping a bit in the winter months and rising in the summer months.
Climate in Caribbean
The Caribbean experiences tropical weather that can be unpredictable at times. There are two seasons: The dry season, which runs from December to May and the wet season, which runs from June to November.
The wet months experience warmer temperatures and higher humidity. Caribbean sea waters reach up to 83 degrees F in the summer months and islands can hit the 90s.
However, there are still Caribbean islands you can visit in August and the later summer months. It simply requires a bit more planning, preparation, and travel insurance! Aruba, for example, sits outside of the hurricane belt, so it’s safe to visit in December or September with a lower risk of bad weather!

Hawaii vs Caribbean: Beaches

The Caribbean region is often known to be home to some of the most stunning beaches around the globe. From idyllic white sands and turquoise clear waters to vibrant reefs full of marine life – there really is something for everyone.
It’s not sheer luck that these beaches have shot to fame- their picturesque nature and calming vibes draw in tourists from across the world, each wanting a little piece of paradise.
While Pacific shores have also been blessed with breathtaking views, in my opinion, nothing can top the Caribbean beaches.
The Caribbean beaches are also calmer than Hawaiian beaches. The winds in Hawaii, especially during the popular winter months, can turn lying on the beach into a small sand storm. This also means rougher waters on Hawaiian beaches.
Additionally, the Caribbean has a much smaller population, and many islands are less commercialized than Oahu and Maui. This means it’s easier to find a quiet spot on the beach or get away from crowds.
On the other hand, Hawaii’s volcanic history has created many unique beaches around the island. From black to red to pink sand. Now, if you’re looking for once-in-a-lifetime views, colorful Hawaiian beaches might nudge you to choose Hawaii over the Caribbean.
After spending many days on the beaches of Oahu and Maui, I have to choose Caribbean beaches over Hawaii.

For couples, the seclusion and beauty of the Caribbean islands offer an irresistible romantic getaway experience. You can have an unforgettable honeymoon in St Croix or Aruba. You can experience empty beaches in the British Virgin Islands and Turks and Caicos.
Trips to these beautiful locations promise rest and relaxation, or sun-filled tours in St Thomas.
