It’s not easy to choose your next island, so here are the top Caribbean islands to visit in January!

1. Turks and Caicos

🏖️ Favorite Turks and Caicos activity in January: Go sailing and snorkeling from Grace Bay
🏨 Best resort on the island: The Shore Club Turks and Caicos

Winter’s frigid clutches have taken hold in January, and when you can’t take any more of it, there’s no better place to go than the Turks and Caicos. January marks the middle of the dry season, and visitors are greeted with pleasant weather that averages in the 70s-80 (24-28°C).

The stunning archipelago is home to over 40 islands and cays, but the best place to visit is Providenciales, which is home to one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, Grace Bay — it’s a popular spot for honeymooners or families!

The calm and crystal-clear waters off of Grace Bay make it an ideal location for snorkeling, scuba diving, and swimming. A few other terrific snorkeling spots in the area include Bight Reef (Coral Gardens) and Smith’s Reef.

January also marks the beginning of the humpback whale migration season. Consider taking a boat tour to witness these magnificent creatures passing through the area.

Although January is an ideal time to visit for the weather and activities, it is considered high season, so be prepared to pay more for accommodations.

If you’re looking to pull out all of the stops and stay somewhere luxurious, check out the Wymara Resort Turks & Caicos; if that’s way out of your budget, check out The Ocean Club Resort, which features suite accommodations and is right on beautiful Grace Bay.

2. St Lucia

🏖️ Favorite St Lucia activity in January: Full Island Land and Sea Adventure
🏨 Best resort on the island: Jade Mountain Beachfront Resort

St. Lucia is a fantastic option for your Caribbean getaway in January. With average temperatures hovering around 80°F (27°C) this island paradise boasts warm and inviting weather, ideal for soaking up the sun or indulging in outdoor activities. The best part – not much rainfall compared to other times of year like August!

The variety of St. Lucia tours and excursions you can choose from is incredible. You’ll find a range of land and sea tours from thrilling ziplining adventures through lush rainforests, to snorkeling in crystal clear waters, to hikes up the famous UNESCO world heritage site of the Twin Pitons, and so much more.

When it comes to lodging, you can choose from luxurious all-inclusive resorts like Jade Mountain, family-friendly options like Coconut Bay Beach Resort, or even intimate boutique hideaways.

If beaches are your priority, I’d suggest checking out Turks and Caicos or Aruba instead.

January also typically ushers in the dry season, presenting an even more ideal opportunity to experience the Caribbean charm and stunning natural beauty of St. Lucia. You can be sure your trip here will be more than worth it!

Looking to escape on a beach vacation in January? Look no further than Aruba! This stunning destination boasts pristine beaches, crystal-clear water, and a vibrant culture that’s perfect for a holiday getaway.

But that’s not all! Unlike St Lucia’s rainforest terrain, Aruba’s dry and warm climate opens up a world of activities for you to enjoy. Dive into adventure by snorkeling through fascinating shipwrecks or exploring off road to natural pools and caves in the breathtaking Arikok National Park. Rest assured, boredom is not an option during your stay on this enchanting island.

One of Aruba’s major perks is its location outside the hurricane zone. With rare unexpected storms or rainfall, even during the worst months, like October, it’s an ideal spot for a vacation all year round. And with high temperatures, there’s no better time to take a refreshing dip in the warm ocean waters.

So, if you’re seeking a memorable and engaging beach trip, Aruba in January will be your ultimate destination.

Last but certainly not least, one of my favorites in the Virgin Islands chain, St Croix USVI.

St Croix in the USVI offers a unique combination of culture, natural beauty, and activities. From historic sites like Fort Christiansvaern to the breathtaking shorelines of Rainbow Beach and Isaac Bay, there is something for everyone.

The largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St Croix is the only one more difficult to get to – you have to fly into St Thomas or Puerto Rico and take a hopper plane from there.

That extra effort makes it well worth it though – you’ll be treated to some of the most amazing secluded beaches in Virgin Islands.

Snorkeling is great here too; my favorite spot in the entire region is Buck Island Reef National Monument, which sits just off Frederiksted. There are only a few tour operators allowed to bring guests out to the island.

With Frederiksted and Christansted being the two larger cities on the island, both offer plenty of bars and restaurants as well as safe excursions that will let you explore every part of St Croix’s beauty.

For something really special though, check out Annaly Bay tide pools, a great way to discover hidden coves and get away from the cities for a bit. There’s truly no other place like St Croix.
