Best Time to Visit Antigua
Visiting Antigua during the winter months from December to February will provide clear skies and warm temperatures, though it comes with a higher price tag as this is peak season.
March-June you’ll find peak season starting to slow down, so you may be able to find some deals on travel packages. But, personally, this is one of my favorite times to visit the Caribbean. Winter trade winds are slowing down and the weather is warm.
The water is also extremely calm and warm during these months – PERFECT beach weather!
June marks the start of hurricane season, but usually only brings occasional rain showers – so don’t let that hold you back! But, even in October, Antigua averages only 5-7 inches of rain. Unless a hurricane is on the horizon, visiting during hurricane season won’t ruin your vacation.
Getting Around Antigua
I’d recommend a rental car or an airport transfer when visiting Antigua. I say this with any Caribbean destination you choose to visit. Most islands don’t have reliable transportation, especially when it comes to off-the-beaten-path vacations.
Taxis, on the other hand, are great. I highly recommend taking advantage of them – local taxi drivers are like personal tour guides! But the cost of taking taxis during your whole vacation is costly.
So, I recommend using a taxi to get your bearings around the island, or when you plan to be drinking.
Other than that, renting a car is the way to go. I prefer DiscoverCars because of the insurance and search options. Freedom to explore wherever you choose! Just make sure you download your Google Maps in case you don’t have service!
And don’t forget – some islands will require a 4-wheel drive vehicle – like St John and St Lucia – do some research on the island you’re visiting before choosing your car.
