In Aruba, it’s considered safer to stay in resort areas such as Palm and Eagle Beach. Try to avoid staying in neighborhoods without gates or security. In the Bahamas, the majority of crime occurs on New Providence (Nassau) and Grand Bahama (Freeport) islands.

Do you need a passport to go to Aruba?

To visit Aruba, you must have a U.S. passport valid for the duration of your stay, a completed Embarkation and Disembarkation Card (ED-Card) upon arrival, and a return or onward ticket.

Do you need a passport to go to the Bahamas?

To visit the Bahamas, you must have a U.S. passport valid for the duration of your stay as well as proof of anticipated departure from The Bahamas.

If you are traveling to The Bahamas on a cruise ship that starts and ends at the same U.S. location, you can use your government-issued driver’s license or birth certificate instead of a passport.

But, even when I’m on a cruise, I prefer to bring my passport with me everywhere – just in case!

Who has better beaches?

Aruba vs Bahamas long, blue ocean and shoreline in Nassau Bahamas
Bahamas is known for long stretches of shoreline and bright blue waters.

Aruba and the Bahamas have beautiful, world-class beaches with soft sand and turquoise waters. Aruba, however, is a fraction of the size of the Bahamas.

Aruba is one island, whereas the Bahamas is made up of over 700 islands. Aruba has 43 miles of coastline in comparison to the Bahamas’ 3,542 miles! Just by numbers, the beaches in the Bahamas are better and make it the ideal beach destination.

Because there are so many more beaches in the Bahamas, you might find it easier to hide away at a secluded beach. Aruba only has so many beaches. This means they might be more crowded, especially during peak season and on the weekends.

But, Palm Beach and Eagle Beach in Aruba have frequently been voted the best beaches in the Caribbean. So, if you prefer Aruba, you won’t be disappointed in the beaches.

Which island is better for snorkeling?

You’ll find a variety of sealife in Aruba. Their coral reefs are well-maintained and protected!

If you’re a fan of snorkeling, then the Bahamas and Aruba are two great destinations to consider. Both have beautiful coral reefs (Arashi Beach being my favorite in Aruba) teeming with life, but they each have their own unique advantages.

Aruba has better dive sites, such as ship wrecks and caves, while the Bahamas offers more accessible snorkeling off the beach. You’ll need to book a snorkel tour or boat charter in Aruba to access the best snorkel sites.

Both countries offer unique and beautiful coral reefs, so it comes down to personal preference and what type of experience you are seeking.

If I had to choose, I prefer exploring the off-shore wrecks and reefs in Aruba vs snorkeling from the beach in the Bahamas.

I have been shark diving in the Bahamas; so if you’re interested in that, I’d definitely suggest it.

Aruba and the Bahamas both have a lively nightlife that caters to different styles of tourists. They both have wonderful beachfront bars, casual bars, and nightclubs throughout the islands.

The best of Aruba’s nightlife is near Palm Beach; much of the Bahamas’ nightlife is on Paradise Island. The party atmosphere thrives on both Aruba and the Bahamas.

Although Aruba is known to be a party island, the Bahamas has outstanding nightlife on almost every island, and throughout Nassau. Ultimately, due to size, Bahamas has the better nightlife.

The cuisine in Aruba is a combination of influences from the Caribbean, Netherlands, and South America. Bahama’s cuisine is, as expected, centered around seafood. You’ll find a more diverse variety of food in Aruba vs Bahamas.

The national or most popular food in Aruba and in Curaçao is keshi yena. Keshi yena is a mix of meat (typically spiced chicken meat), olives, pickled onions, and plums baked in a cheese rind. Finish off with a coconut candy or Dutch chocolate for dessert!

Some of the most popular dishes in the Bahamas include cracked conch, conch salad, rock lobsters, Bahamian stew fish, and baked crab.

Which island has better weather?

Both islands have great weather with temperatures that average in the mid-80s. However, Aruba has better weather for a few reasons.

Aruba is drier and has more sunny days than any other Caribbean island! But, most importantly, Aruba is located outside the hurricane belt.

Depending on the time of year of your visit, hurricanes could be a risk in the Bahamas. Though they see hurricanes less frequently than many other islands in the Caribbean, hurricane season still runs from June to November in the Bahamas.

You can vacation in Aruba is during the drier months, April through August, though it might be hot! I’d still rather opt for Aruba in December, or the later winter months.

A good time to vacation in the Bahamas is February to April. That way you can avoid the rainy season and the holiday crowds.

Which vacation is cheaper: Aruba vs Bahamas

Flamingo on the Beach is Aruba
Flamingo island is another popular thing to do in Aruba.

When it comes to affordability, both islands are expensive, as are most in the Caribbean. But, Aruba is cheaper than the Bahamas.

The Bahamas has a higher cost of living, compared to living in Aruba, which applies to everything – lodging, restaurants, and entertainment. Bahamas also has higher-end villa and resort options, increase the cost of most accommodations.

The one exception to this would be that flights from the US are typically cheaper going to the Bahamas than to Aruba.

Both islands boast beautiful beaches, plenty of activities for all ages, and excellent cuisine, making them great destinations for families. So which island should you choose?

While both offer beautiful scenery and plenty of activities, the Bahamas is ultimately a better option for families looking for an unforgettable experience. With more land area to explore and countless activities on offer, the Bahamas seem to have a bit more family-oriented options.

However, for families on a budget, Aruba may be the cheaper option!

Which is better for couples?

Overall, this depends on what you enjoy doing as a couple! The Bahamas has more opportunities for island-hopping to touristy excursions and adventures. Of course, the Bahamas also has more beach options.

But, Aruba is better for couples that want to relax, and not worry about the weather! Aruba also has incredible dinner options for an evening out. There are even tons of romantic options to dine with your feet in the water like Flying Fishbone and Barefoot Restaraunt.

Another romantic option is Aruba is to dine at sunset from the California Lighthouse – one of the most famous attractions on the island!

The orange and red colored evening skies make Aruba perfect for a romantic sunset cruise. Additionally, families frequent the Bahamas, whereas Aruba is a more romantic destination.

You really can’t go wrong with a honeymoon in Aruba or the Bahamas. Both offer beachside relaxation whether with a cocktail or a book. And both offer tremendous nightlife and opportunities to let your hair down.

2. Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations

Aruba may be flat but the huge boulders of the formations stand out. You can hike and explore the Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations which will also give you brilliant views of the island.

The casino is located at the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino along Palm Beach. There are enough gaming tables and slot machines to test your luck! This is a popular spot in Aruba, so there’s no doubt it will be an exciting night out.

10. John Watling’s Distillery (New Providence Island)

Try a sample of this homemade rum during a tour. John Watling’s Distillery has other spirits as well, including vodka filtered with pink sand and a gin infused with plants from Andros.

11. Queen’s Staircase (New Providence Island)

This historic staircase with 66 steps took more than 16 years to complete. It was carved out of limestone by roughly 600 slaves in the late 1700s, enabling the British to connect to the capital city of Nassau. The Bahamas used to be British Territory – like Anguilla and Bermuda – but unlike these two, the Bahamas are now their own country.
