Headed to the Caribbean this March? I don’t blame you—the islands are constantly calling my name, and after being cooped up all winter, it’s my favorite time to hit up the best beaches, indulge in delicious foods, and soak up the sun.

March brings spring breakers, winter wanderers, and plenty of sunshine to the Caribbean islands. 

I love this time of year because the high season is closing, and the winds from the upcoming rainy seasons start cooling things down, making it the prime time to visit!

With over 7,000 islands to choose from, picking which island is probably the hardest choice. 

But I’ve got you covered. After spending so much time hopping around the Caribbean, here are my 15 picks for the best Caribbean islands to visit in March of 2024:

March in the Caribbean is absolutely glorious. Most likely, it’s still quite cold where you live, with the promise of Spring near. But if you’re like me and you just can’t wait any longer for that warm weather, pack your bags and head to the Caribbean for a taste of eternal sunshine.

The islands are still full of guests, but as the high season slowly comes to a close, particularly after spring break. You’ll start to find lower prices and fewer crowds, which means more beachfront access for you.

Plus, March is the perfect time for cultural immersion, as many islands celebrate Carnivals and other festivals during this month. 

So whether you’re just trying to work on your tan or you want to party like a local at a Caribbean festival, The Caribbean is one of the best getaways in March.

1. St Thomas and St John, US Virgin Islands

The US Virgin Islands are some of the most dreamy Caribbean islands, and they’re one of the best places to cruise in March. And you can cross off St Thomas and St John in the same trip.

The weather is near perfect, making it an ideal time to soak up the sun and enjoy the crystal-clear waters. And you can hop around the islands for a few days.

For those who love a good adventure, the Virgin Islands National Park, located on St John, is the best place to get it. Just hop on a quick 20ish-minute ferry to get to St John from St Thomas. I love spending a few days on both islands. There are even tons of snorkeling tours that will take you around both islands.

You can snorkel in the waters or grab your hiking shoes and explore the island’s natural landscapes.

Personally, I like to spend my days at Trunk Bay, one of St John’s most beautiful beaches with white sand and turquoise waters. There’s even an underwater snorkeling trail for those who want to see some of the island’s rich marine life.

2. Grand Cayman

Did I hear the word discount? Heading to the Grand Cayman Islands in March is a good idea for many reasons. But one of my favorites is the deals you can find around this time of year. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good discount while on vacation?

Aside from that, March is also the perfect time to dive in Grand Cayman. The water is clear and warm, making it an ideal spot for exploring underwater life. 

If diving isn’t your thing, don’t worry; there are plenty of other activities to do on the island.

I recently went swimming with stingrays at Stingray City and soaked up the sunshine at Starfish Beach. It was one of my favorite excursions I’ve done in the islands. 

3. St Vincent

If you really want to get off the beaten path and experience a more authentic Caribbean island, then St Vincent is the place for you. With limited tourists and a laid-back atmosphere, this island offers a glimpse into traditional Caribbean culture.

March is considered the peak season in St Vincent, but don’t let that deter you – peak season is relative on this lesser-visited island.

The weather is perfect for exploring the island’s lush rainforests and cascading waterfalls. You can even see where Pirates of the Caribbena was filmed! And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike up to La Soufrière volcano for some breathtaking views.

Antigua is one of the best places to go in the Caribbean in March, especially if you consider yourself a beach bum, mermaid, or sun worshipper like I do. 

The island boasts 365 beaches, one for each day of the year. So you’ll have no problem finding a spot to relax and soak up the warm Caribbean sun.

The sands are a gorgeous powder white, and the water is crystal clear, making it an ideal place for swimming and snorkeling. 

And if you want to pick up a new hobby, Antigua is the perfect island for water sports. Try out some of the island’s favorite activities like kitesurfing, windsurfing, or sailing.

Don’t forget to try all the yummy local cuisine while you’re there – Antigua is known for its delicious seafood dishes like Conch Chowder.

    5. Aruba

    If you’re looking for a good time, then Aruba is one of the best Caribbean islands to visit in March 2024. As early as January, the island starts celebrating with carnival festivities that continue until March. Prepare to be taken aback by colorful parades, traditional music, and fantastic food.

    But Carnival isn’t the only reason to visit Aruba in March. The island is a paradise for outdoor activities like hiking and biking in the National Park, getting off-path in a jeep, and finding the best snorkeling spots like Arashi Beach. 

    And, of course, there are plenty of stunning beaches where you can relax and enjoy some of the Caribbean’s clearest waters.

    6.  St Kitts + Nevis

    St Kitts and Nevis is often forgotten when people are planning their Caribbean vacations in March, and it’s such a shame because these twin islands offer so much. 

    With gorgeous beaches, lush rainforests, and incredible wildlife, there’s something for everyone here.

    One of the main attractions on St Kitts is the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, which offers fantastic views over the island and its surrounding waters.

    You can also take a scenic railway tour around the island to see all the beautiful sights. It’s the perfect vacation for exploring and relaxing.

    7. Jost Van Dyke + Virgin Gorda British Virgin Islands

    It can be difficult going from cold weather to sweltering heat, which is why the British Virgin Islands are a great choice for a March vacation. 

    The temperatures are still warm but not too hot to handle, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy.

    On Jost Van Dyke, you can visit the famous Soggy Dollar Bar, where you can swim up to the bar and enjoy a refreshing drink.

     And on Virgin Gorda, you can explore The Baths, a unique beach with giant granite boulders creating pools and grottos to swim in. The waters have amazing visibility, making them excellent for diving and snorkeling.

    8. Grenada

    Although Grenada sees some of the most rain in all of the Caribbean in March, it’s the island’s driest month, making it the perfect beach holiday March has to offer. 

    The island is so lush with vibrant vegetation and flowers you’ll hardly notice the occasional rain shower.

    Grenada is one of my favorite Caribbean islands for connecting with nature. The national parks are full of wildlife, stunning waterfalls, and hiking trails. 

    It’s also full of culture from their spice markets, rum distilleries, and plantation homes. Not to mention, the beautiful beaches are perfect for swimming or just soaking up some sun.

    9. Puerto Rico

    Puerto Rico is all things Latin and all things Caribbean rolled into one. You’ll experience a mix of culture, history, and tropical vibes in this U.S. territory. 

    March is the perfect time to visit as it’s not peak season yet, so you can avoid the crowds and still enjoy warm temperatures.

    In March, Puerto Rico celebrates their Ponce Carnival, a colorful and lively festival filled with music, dancing, and parades. 

    And, of course, when you aren’t dancing to reggaeton or salsa, you can relax on one of their beautiful beaches. 

    Flamenco Beach on Culebra Island is one of my favorite beaches in all of the Caribbean. 

    I also love exploring El Yunque National Rainforest in Puerto Rico. The staunch contrast between visiting PR’s beaches and rainfest is an incredible way to make one vacation feel like two! 

    10. Jamaica

    Jamaica is always a popular destination, and March is no different. The Caribbean island is still in full swing with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine. 

    You’ll find more spring breakers in Jamaica than on other Caribbean islands during March, but that doesn’t take away from its beauty and charm. And if you’re looking for a party, it only adds to the appeal.

    Spend your days lounging on the white sandy beaches, sipping on a refreshing rum punch, and enjoying the world’s best jerk chicken. 

    Grab the first conch dishes of the season, as March marks the start of conch season in Jamaica. 

    One of my favorite things about this particular paradise is Jamaica’s thriving and unique ecotourism scene. From cliff jumping at Rick’s Cafe in Negril to tubing, hiking, and exploring the Luminous Lagoon, the natural landscape of Jamaica offers endless opportunities.

    11. Punta Cana

    Punta Cana is another one of those hot Caribbean destinations for spring breakers, but for good reason—it’s cheap! 

    The Dominican Republic’s easternmost tip experiences perfect weather from January to March and beyond with warm temperatures, low humidity, and minimal rainfall. 

    It’s the ideal location for those seeking a tropical escape without breaking the bank. It’s also known for getting around off-road and ziplining opportunities – making it more than worth visiting for all types of travelers! Take ATV tours, rent bikes, or just hang out at your all-inclusive.

    Punta Cana is known for having some of the cheapest all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, making it a popular destination for travelers on a budget. 

    Spend your days lounging on the pristine white sandy beaches, participating in water sports, and eating and drinking to your heart’s desire.

    12. St Lucia

    Feel like splurging? Then look no further than St. Lucia for the ultimate Caribbean vacation in March. The island is still experiencing high season, and due to the easter holidays, it can see a spike in visitors and prices. But trust me, it’s worth it.

    The island is at its most beautiful in March when the Pigeon Island National Park is lush with greenery. Of course, you can’t visit St Lucia without taking the hike to Gros Pitons – the island’s main attraction!

    Clear blue waters and warm temperatures are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. St. Lucia is also known for its luxury resorts, spas, and fine dining experiences, making it the ideal destination for a romantic getaway or indulgent vacation.

    13. Turks and Caicos

    Turks and Caicos are among the most popular and safest islands in the Caribbean, and just like every other month, March is the perfect time to visit. 

    With only a few rainfall days and warm temperatures, it’s the ideal location for beach lovers and outdoor activities.

    The water visibility peaks in March, making it the perfect time for chartering boats, snorkeling off Grace Bay Beach or scuba diving in Grand Turk. 

    Loads of sea life are still migrating through the area, so don’t be surprised if you come across giant rays and sea turtles during your underwater adventures.

    14.  St Croix USVI

    The laidback lifestyle of St Croix seems to always draw in visitors, but the month of March is truly something special. The island is typically a beach bum haven with a sleepy little vibe but is surprisingly home to a diverse range of activities that will keep you entertained during your stay.

    You can explore historical landmarks such as Fort Christiansvaern and any of the sugar mill ruins scattered throughout the island. Enjoy outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking, and snorkeling. My favorite hike on the island is to the Annaly Bay Tide Pools – a can’t-miss in St Croix.

    Make sure to also check out Buck Island Reef National Monument, a protected marine park that offers some of the best – and my absolute favorite – snorkeling and scuba diving in the Caribbean. 

    But most of all, enjoy those lazy days basking in the Caribbean sun. Christiansted and Frederiksted are two vibrant cities and the best places to stay on the island.

    15. Dominica

    Dominica is often confused with the Dominican Republic, but this small island in the Eastern Caribbean is a hidden gem for tourists. 

    It’s a mountainous island with lush green forests, waterfalls, and hot springs, making it ideal for hikers and nature lovers. It’s arguably one of the best islands for hiking in the Caribbean.

    In March, the island experiences fewer crowds and still has warm temperatures that are perfect for exploring. 

    My favorite spots on the island include Trafalgar Falls, Boiling Lake, and Champagne Reef, known for its underwater volcanic bubbles. Don’t worry; it’s safe and insanely gorgeous…and more than worth seeing.
