Wondering, when is the best time to visit St Croix US Virgin Islands I’ve been to St. Croix many times over the years, and have had plenty of opportunities to get a feel for when the best (and worst) time to visit is, (seriously, I’ve even visited in August, a peak hurricane month) – but I also wanted to know what the locals thought.

Based on my personal experience and the insights I got from locals, the consensus is that the months of November through April are generally considered “high season” and the best time to visit St. Croix; during this time, the weather is dry and mild temperatures make it ideal for exploring everything that this beautiful Caribbean island has to offer.

But, I have some insider tips to help you plan the best time to visit St Croix – and a little about the weather during these peak months.

No matter the time of year, I always recommend purchasing travel insurance for peace of mind.

When is the Best Time to Visit St Croix USVI?

The best time to visit St Croix is between November and April. The tradewinds in the winter months make the beach breezy while the sun is still shining.

The downside? The holidays through February are when prices spike. Airline tickets, hotels, and costs will go up during these months. Another thing to keep in mind is that because of those winter tradewinds, the water might be rougher in November and December.

So while November-April is peak season, I personally recommend visiting in April-June. Keep in mind peak season means crowds. In April, the holidays are over and spring breaks are winding down, making it the perfect time to visit. This is also the best time to visit US Virgin Islands.

The water will be slightly warmer and you’ll notice fewer crowds, even on the most popular beaches. The waters are calm; perfect for floating and snorkeling. The prices also start to drop in preparation for their low season.

If you’re looking for a more laid-back atmosphere, the summer months are typically less crowded and prices tend to be lower than other parts of the year due to less demand. That said, it’s much more humid and many seasonal restaurants and tour companies take a summer break!

Furthermore, the St Croix, St John, and St Thomas rainy season tends to peak in AugustOctober so that’s something else you may want to consider if you’re visiting during this period.

Worst Time to Visit St Croix USVI

When it comes to visiting St Croix, it can be said that there is no bad time to visit!

After all, it is a Caribbean island. However, the months from August to October are generally considered the “worst time to visit St Croix US Virgin Islands“.

During these months, the humidity is high and the rainy season is in full swing which brings afternoon showers as a common occurrence. The temperature peaks at about 87 degrees F, which is the hottest it gets all year round.

But even with all this, the warm and calm waters make for a relaxing getaway experience – except of course, when a storm is on the horizon. The island is quiet and not crowded as locals recover from busy season and prepare for the next!

However, not every year is the same. I recently visited in June, and we actually had heat warnings while we were there! The heat index hit 100° F! I was shocked – I’d never felt heat like that in the islands before.

So, when planning your trip, it’s always smart to keep in mind that no year or month will ever be the same. Another reason travel insurance can come in handy.

Cheapest Time to Visit St Croix

September and October may be in the peak hurricane months, but they are also some of the cheapest times to visit St. Croix.

Many people shy away from the Caribbean during this time of year due to fear of hurricanes, but luckily hurricanes actually hitting the island are rare.

Personally, I find the islands to be perfectly safe during hurricane season. I just make keep an eye on the weather before my trip. You’ll know if dangerous weather is coming ahead of time.

Islands like Grand Cayman and Aruba are usually entirely unscathed by hurricanes, as they don’t even sit in the hurricane belt!

This makes it a great opportunity for budget travelers and those who don’t enjoy busy tourist sites. You may experience afternoon showers that come with more humid climates, but the rain never hurt anybody!

On the bright side, fewer crowds and maybe even some lower prices!
