You can also explore the islands’ villages and nature trails, or take a tour of the local historical sites. If you’re looking for a Caribbean vacation spot with plenty to offer, Turks and Caicos is a perfect choice!
Is Turks and Caicos Safe?
Turks and Caicos is a beautiful and safe destination to visit. The islands are known for its stunning beaches, resorts, and activities.
It’s important to be aware of crimes that occur on the island, which mostly take place at night and in secluded areas, or in Providenciales.
7 Day Turks and Caicos Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive and head to Grace Bay Beach and Smith’s Reef for Snorkeling
Day 2: Kayak Chalk Sound
Day 3: Visit Providenciales and Kayak to Water Cay (Iguana Island) 🦎
Day 4: ATV Tour and Catch Your Own Conch for Dinner
Day 5: Beach Hop!
Day 6: Trip to Salt Cay
Day 7: Explore the History of Turks and Caicos Before Departing
While this 7 day itinerary packs a lot of adventure into a short week, there’s still so much to do and see in Providenciales and the other Turks and Caicos territories. Below are the can’t-miss activities for any time of year to make planning your next trip to Turks and Caicos as easy as laying on the beach all day!
Day 1 Turks and Caicos Itinerary: Arrive and Snorkel at the Beach
Turks and Caicos is located in the northeastern Caribbean. When you arrive to Turks and Caicos, you’ll land in the Providenciales International Airport (PLS).
To explore the full island, you’ll want to pick up a rental car at the airport. You can find midsize cars for about $350-$450 from RentalCars.com.
If you want to rely on taxis for the week, you can take a taxi from the airport, or book a private transfer to your hotel.
When you’re settled in, it’s time to hit your first stop! Grace Bay Beach is not only a great place to stay in Turks and Caicos, but also a great way to start your trip!
Grace Bay Beach
Head to one of the most popular beaches in Turks and Caicos – Grace Bay Beach. Spend your first day enjoying the incredible white-sand, clear waters of Grace Bay Beach.

While you’re here, you can snorkel and take a swim around the Bright Reef offshore. Enjoy lunch with waterfront views at The Grill at Grace Bay Club or The Deck at Seven Stars Resort and Spa. Finish your day with an orange colored sky while you watch the sunset from the beach.
The Oasis at Grace Bay is a great resort option to stay in Grace Bay.
Smith’s Reef
This local gem is a favorite spot for snorkeling offshore! It’s not far from Grace Bay, so it’s a great addition to your day if you want to hit the best snorkeling spots on Turks and Caicos. If you prefer guided snorkeling, there are plenty of snorkeling tours to choose from.
I’m also a big fan of Grand Cayman for snorkeling, which is also worth checking out if you’re planning a Caribbean vacation.
Pro Tip: Bring your own flippers and snorkel gear, or buy some as soon as you arrive. The shores can be rocky, wavy, and difficult to get out to the reefs at some beaches!
Day 2 Turks and Caicos Itinerary: Kayak Chalk Sound
A Turks and Caicos Itinerary isn’t complete without a day exploring Chalk Sound.
On the very Southwest side of Turks and Caicos, you’ll find Chalk Sound, a protected National Park with pristine waters that are algae-free and filled with limestone sand and small islands to explore. The shallow water allows you to see marine life from stingrays to fish and sharks, and you’ll also fine some of the island’s iguanas hanging out on the rocks around the sound.
You can easily spend 2-3 hours kayaking or paddle boarding around this secluded piece of paradise. Motorboats aren’t allowed here, except for a pontoon boat tour, so you’ll usually find the water is calm and untouched, perfect for a leisurely ride or hanging in the water!
There are tons of restaurants in Turks and Caicos to choose from. I can recommend Las Brisas Restaurant and Bar (also where you can reserve and rent kayaks and paddle boards). Enjoy delicious seafood or bar food with a pool and incredible views of the sound.
Day 3 Turks and Caicos Itinerary: Visit Water Cay (Iguana Island) and Spend Time with TCI Potcakes!
Iguana Island Water Cay
Just off the shore of Grace Bay is well-known and protected Water Cay (pronounced “key”). You may know this has Iguana Island!

This is home to the endangered iguanas that were once living on the main Providenciales territory and were overtaken by domestic cats and dogs. They are protected, so cannot be touched or fed. There are two trails on the cay for people to walk through without disturbing their natural habitat!
There are two ways to get to Iguana Island. You can kayak from Providenciales or take the less strenuous route of a boat charter!
Once you arrive, you can enter with a $15 fee to the Turks and Caicos National Trust who keep the island and iguanas safe and maintained. You can also spend an extra $5 and enjoy relaxing on Half Moon Beach for a while.
Turks and Caicos Potcakes
When you get back to Grace Bay, you can keep spending your day with protecting animals by checking out some of the “potcakes” on the island! What are potcakes? Just adorable little strays from around the island that need taken care of!

The Potcake Place Rescue in Grace Bay not only rescues puppies, but organizes volunteers to walk, play with, and you guessed it…adopt! You can bring one their little guys home if you just happen to fall in love with a puppy during your vacation.
If you’re not strong enough to play with them without bringing them all home, you can also donate to Potcake Place on their website.
Day 4 Turks and Caicos Itinerary: ATV Tour and Catch Your Own Conch for Dinner!
ATV tours are a great way to see even more of Turks and Caicos! This popular excursion will take you outback and around Turks. You can choose tours from 1-4 hours long, depending on how much you want to do!
Book your ATV tour with one of the highly rated tours around the island.
There are many to choose from, but some offer stops for lunch, where you can try the famous Conch meal of Turks and Caicos.
Conch are a staple in Turks and Caicos and super important for the economy and fishing industry.
Speaking of Conch, you can take a boat tour that will bring you to catch your own Conch meal! They’ll take care of the messy parts, make sure the whole conch will be used accordingly, and prepare a great Conch dish for you and the crew!
This is such a great date night adventure or a great option to teach the family about the marine life around the island.
Don’t worry, the Captain will take care of the Conch diving!
Book your extreme snorkeling tour and fresh Conch meal 🌊
Day 5 Turks and Caicos Itinerary: Beach Hop
…or just pick your favorite beach and hang there all day! After all, you are in the Caribbean. Turks and Caicos is an island for relaxing. You’ll learn quickly to slow down and meet the locals on island time during your stay.
You already know about Grace Beach and Smith’s Beach, so you can spend more time in either other those if you choose!
There are plenty more spectacular beaches to choose from in Turks and Caicos.
Leeward Beach
Leeward Beach is a great spot for chilling on the white sand. This calm, bright blue water is found on the Northeast of Turks and Caicos. It’s great for floating in the water or watching the action from Grace Beach in the distance.

There are still a few access points to Leeward that may be difficult to find, but once you find them, you’ll have a long coastline for walking or finding the perfect secluded spot.
Flamingo Creek Bay
This remote beach on the west coast of Providenciales is a great opportunity to see what the beaches are like on the opposite side of Grace Bay!
This beach has one of the best reefs offshore, making it the perfect place for a snorkel break.
Day 6 Turks and Caicos Itinerary: Trip to Salt Cay!
Historically, Salt Cay was a large producer of salt, which was the largest piece of Turks and Caicos economy at one time! Now, it’s a small inhabited but secluded territory of Turks of Caicos. You have to take a flight to get there, and you’ll find that the trip is more than worth it.
Salt Cay is only 2.6 square miles, but packs a big punch with things to do off the coast of this little cay.
If you’re a scuba diver or snorkeler, you don’t want to miss the Salt Cay reefs, particularly from January to April. Why? This is when the humpback whales migrate right through Turks and Caicos!
That doesn’t mean it’s not worth making the trip any other time of year. The cay still holds enough history, hiking, kayaking, and tours are available throughout the year. If you’re looking to really get away from everything, Salt Cay is the perfect escape.
Day 7 Turks and Caicos Itinerary: Explore the History of Turks Before You Depart
It’s the last day of your Turks and Caicos Itinerary! You’ll want to make it count. Plan for a late checkout, if possible, and a late flight.
You’re probably wiped out from all your adventures in the sun, so this is the perfect day to take a relaxing stroll through the island and explore the history and culture of Turks and Caicos before you leave.
Cheshire Hall Plantation
The Cheshire Hall Plantation is one of the most visited sites on the island, an old cotton plantation where you can see the ruins of the once functioning plantation.
It’s located on a hill in downtown Providenciales. Downtown Providenciales used to be the livelier “city” area on the island, but recently, Grace Bay has been a growing town where tourists spend most of their time.
Sapodilla Bay Hill Rock Carvings
The Sapodilla Bay Hill Rock Carvings are another historic attraction in Turks and Caicos. Similar to the ancient carving in St John, USVI, Sapodilla Bay Hill Rock Carvings date back centuries ago and can be found on a small hike up the Sapodilla Hill. Though some of the carvings have been removed for preservation, the views from the top make the trek worth it.
Pro tip if you’re looking for an island of hiking and panoramic mountaintop views, check out St Lucia, the Hawaii of the Caribbean.
You can also check out the National Museum and Heritage site, the famous “Hole”, a naturally formed sinkhole in Long Bay, or visit the protected West Harbour Bluff for incredible views.
Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Turks and Caicos. But you’ll be sure to leave with memories that will last a lifetime!

Day 1 of Your Weekend in Turks and Caicos: Grace Bay and Smith’s Reef

Day 3 of Your Weekend in Turks and Caicos: Iguana Island
Visit Water Cay (Iguana Island) and spend time with TCI Potcakes, the little stray puppies of Turks and Caicos that spend most of their time at the Potcakes rescue shelter waiting for volunteers like you to come walk, love, and adopt them!

Turks and Caicos Things to Know
From weather and money to finding the most unique things to do in Turks and Caicos, here are the most important things to consider while planning your vacation!
Most importantly, can you drink the water in Turks and Caicos? I wouldn’t suggest it. Even in areas it’s safe to drink, the heavy mineral taste tends to ruin it. I prefer bottled or filtering my water in Turks and Caicos.
Turks and Caicos Weather
Hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30 in the Caribbean, and rainy season in Turks and Caicos is considered May to December.
From January to April, temperatures sit around 78° F / 26° C
From June to September, the hottest months see temperatures up to 84° F / 29° C
October to December temperatures hang around in the middle from 78° – 82° F / 26-28° C
Turks and Caicos Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Turks and Caicos is from January to April. Temperatures hit around 80 degrees during the day and 70 at night.
If you’re looking for the best weather, December to April is best for you. If you’re looking to visit Turks and Caicos on a budget, May-November will be cheaper, but you might see some rainy days during your trip.
Aruba in December is similar to Turks and Caicos and is a bit cheaper as well.
More Unique Things to Do in Turks and Caicos
✅ Explore the Caves and Cliffs throughout Turks and Caicos
Turks and Caicos has a few island territories filled with caves and cliffs you can explore during your trip.
✅ Visit the Famous Middle Caicos “Ocean Hole”
This unique geological site drops 250 into the ocean and is likely the largest blue hole in the world.

Things to Know Before Going to Turks and Caicos
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen and bug spray. It will be expensive on the island
- Don’t expect a bustling nightlife. Consider Aruba if you want an island with nightlife!
- It’s British territory. You will need your passport!
- Everyone speaks English
- Turks and Caicos is expensive; prepare accordingly
Don’t forget to pack everything you need for a stress-free vacation from start to finish.
Getting Around Turks and Caicos
For your Turks and Caicos Itinerary to be successful, you’ll need the “know before you go” of transportation on the island! You can take taxis or rent a car to get around Turks and Caicos. Don’t rely on public transportation, it isn’t convenient for tourists!
Taxis
Taxi costs are high and are charged per person. Talk to your taxi driver before getting in so you know the cost of your trip. Note: Uber does not operate in Turks and Caicos
The cost of a trip from the airport to Grace Bay is about $30 per person. This is significantly higher than most Caribbean taxi fees.
Some taxis are actually passenger vans, so you won’t be alone in the taxi. Don’t worry, this is normal!
Keep Cash on You for Taxi Rides ($USD accepted!)
US dollar is fine, but many taxis won’t accept credit cards. Prepare before and bring the cash you think you’ll need (more than you think you’ll need!). There are a few ATMs around the island and they will give you US dollars.
Renting a Car in Turks and Caicos
If you have a big day planned and want to do a lot of traveling around the island, you’ll want to rent a car.
The average midsize rental car for a 7-day trip will cost about $350-$450.
Rental cars, like most things on the island, can be expensive. So ideally, plan a few days out and about with a rental car and take taxis on the slower days you want to chill and hang around your resort.

Is Turks and Caicos Expensive?
Turks and Caicos is a very expensive island and likely one of the most expensive Caribbean islands, along with Grand Cayman and Anguilla. Here’s a breakdown of the costs for your 7-day Turks and Caicos itinerary. These are approximate averages based on 2022 pricing in October. The weather is great, though you may still hit some rainy days and it’s not high tourist season yet, when flights and hotels may be more expensive.
| Average Cost of Booking.com Hotel: 7 days, 2 adults | $2767 |
| Flights for 2 from NYC | $500 |
| Cost of RentalCars.com.: 7 days | $400 |
| 7 nights of Dinners: 2 adults | $500 (approx. $40/entrée) |
| 7 days of breakfast/lunch food | $500 |
| 3 Viator Excursions for 2 adults | $1290 |
Total average cost of a 7-day Turks and Caicos Itinerary
$6000
This can obviously differ based on a variety of factors. You may want to go during a cheaper season, maybe you want to do fewer excursions and hit the beaches on your own, or maybe you want to stay in private rooms instead of resorts! There are certainly ways to make this cheaper…and ways to make it more expensive!
