15 Romantic Caribbean Islands for Couples
Are you looking for inspiration for a romantic getaway in the Caribbean? You’re in the right place. I’ve put together a list of all of my favorite romantic islands for couples to visit for their next Caribbean getaway.
The Caribbean Islands are my go-to for romantic vacations – they offer dreamy beaches, tropical weather, exciting hikes, and a lively culture to enjoy with my partner. And there’s nothing I love more than new experiences in new places with my favorite person.
Deciding your next vacation can be hard, but with so many options in the Caribbean, you can find an island perfect for you and your partner no matter your age, interests, or budget.
Spend your time sipping cocktails on the beach until sunset in the Virgin Islands or party the night away in Aruba. Go on an unforgettable adventure in the forests of St Lucia or end your day being pampered in Turks and Caicos.
Of course, every island in the Caribbean is worth visiting, but you can’t hit them all at once! Let’s get started with my favorite romantic Caribbean islands for couples to visit this year!
1. St John US Virgin Islands
Being the smallest of the three US Virgin Islands, St John might be all you need to visit to get the best out of the Caribbean. It also happens to be my favorite island on this list.
It’s packed with amusing culture, exceptional history, and some breathtaking nature – particularly in Virgin Islands National Park.
My partner and I frequent the US Virgin Islands. Even when we’re staying in St Thomas, a day or two (at least), is a requirement for our itinerary!
St. John has over 30 hiking trails among its mountain range and coastline and over 290km2 of coral reef, making it one of the best spots for snorkeling or diving.
If you’re visiting for a romantic Caribbean vacation, you will love taking advantage of the amazing sunsets on the beach – my favorite way to spend an evening with my partner!
If you prefer lazy days, St. John also has many jaw-dropping bays with dreamy beaches and views of the Caribbean Sea dotted with smaller islands. Perfect for a romantic gateway for all kinds of couples.
2. Turks and Caicos
Turks and Caicos is set near the Bahamas, and it is as beautiful as this popular Caribbean Island but with fewer crowds and more hidden gems.
Turks and Caicos is more than an island. It is an archipelago composed of 40 low-lying islands and cays surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.
Just a few of them are populated, and the rest can be explored on by boat hopping from one island to the other, or you could stick to the low-lying keys and explore them on top of a horse, a kayak, or a paddle board.
The islands and cays are surrounded by rich coral reef, so snorkeling or diving is a must on your Turks itinerary.
The archipelago of Turks and Caicos is a great option for water-loving couples of all ages, as almost all activities take place in, under, or on the water! It also happens to be on my list of the safest islands.
The land, however, offers miles of ivory-sand beaches with plenty of resorts and low-key guesthouses. You won’t have to look far to find a spot far from others.
This is one of my favorite islands to send people having dreams of lazy, beach honeymoons!
3. St Lucia
In the eastern corner of the Caribbean lies St Lucia. It is probably one of the most romantic islands in the Caribbean, and every couple will find something for themselves on this small paradise island!
There are plenty of luxurious resorts and stunning villas located on the beachfront or on the side of hills, offering relaxing services such as spa, massages on the beach, incredible restaurants overlooking the sea, and a bunch of romantic tours.
If you think this sounds expensive, you’re right. St Lucia is one of the more surprisingly costly options on this list.
Being one of the most mountainous islands in the region, St Lucia is ideal for couples that like active vacations!
The most breathtaking scenery of St Lucia is undoubtedly the Pitons.
They’re two pencil-shaped mountains on the foothills of the Caribbean Sea that you won’t want to stop looking at. The super adventurous among us can attempt this strenuous climb to the summit for unforgettable memories and jaw-dropping views.
4. Aruba
One of the southernmost islands, Aruba is located very close to the northern shores of South America.
It is only 32km long and 9km wide, but on land, you’ll find vibrant and colorful buildings and the Arikok National Park. With its long stretches of sandy plains, it looks like another planet at times!
Aruba’s shores are dotted with incredible beaches with endless stretches of ivory-colored, soft sand, and shallow water of all shades of blue.
Plan to spend at least one evening at Aruba’s beaches for a candlelit dinner among swaying palm trees, tropical winds, and crashing waves.

What’s more, Aruba is one of the safest Caribbean islands! It is also referred as ‘the happiest island’ and it might be why!
5. British Virgin Islands
Another great destination for your romantic gateway in the Caribbean is the British Virgin Islands.
Scattered in the heart of the Caribbean are four islands and some other 50 keys and islets. One of my favorite parts of the BVI is their proximity to the US Virgin Islands. You can be in St John via ferry in under 30 minutes! Two countries in one trip? That’s my kinda trip.
The beaches there remain pristine and the mountains untouched. With most places deserted, The British Virgin Islands offer a tranquil vacation, as they are one of the least developed islands in the Caribbean.
So, couples looking for some peaceful time together in a secluded location, surrounded by nature will enjoy the BVI.
Of course, there are fun things to do in BVI too! There are tons of water activities available – from paddle boarding around the calm bays to diving among the impressive coral reef.
You can also explore more than the main islands and go on an island-hopping tour to the surrounding islets. This is one of the best ways to take in the beauty of the Caribbean.
6. Cayman Islands
The Cayman Islands are perfect for a romantic gateway in the Caribbean. Set in between Cuba and the Caribbean coast of Central America, the islands include three main islands that are considered British Overseas Territory.
Cayman Islands are the ideal destinations for couples looking for peace and relaxation in a luxurious setting. You can spend your day lounging around on a remote beach with no one around, followed by a couple’s spa treatment and finally, candlelight dinner in one of the many fine-dining restaurants available.
That’s why Cayman Islands are a great destination for lovers!
There are plenty of opportunities for active days out too.
The islands are famous for their incredible snorkeling and diving sites. The area around its shores hide one of the most stunning coral reefs in the Caribbean.
You can also create some unforgettable memories and head out to Cayman’s North Side at nighttime to kayak among bioluminescence.
7. Jamaica
Jamaica is a fantastic destination for couples looking to enjoy a romantic getaway. The island’s stunning Seven Miles Beach, Floyd’s Pelican Bar, and vibrant culture create the perfect backdrop for a memorable vacation with your loved one.
One of the most popular attractions in Jamaica for couples is Dunn’s River Falls, a breathtaking waterfall that cascades down a series of terraced steps into the Caribbean Sea. Couples can climb the falls together, holding hands and enjoying the cool, refreshing water as they make their way to the top.
Another favorite romantic activity is taking a sunset cruise to Negril Rick’s Cafe, where you can sip cocktails, listen to live music and watch the sun dip below the horizon in a blaze of color.

8. Bahamas
The Bahamas is known as one of the most popular Caribbean Islands.
An archipelago of 700 islands, located only 100km away from Florida and 80 km from Cuba, the Bahamas is a dream destination for many couples of all ages. It is a great destination for honeymoon, anniversaries, engagements, weddings, Valentine’s Day trips or romantic weekend gateways.
The Bahamas has over 3,500 miles of coastline, so there is an endless choice for your couple’s day at the beach. If you’re looking for privacy, you will easily find remote beaches with no other people in sight.
And if you’re looking for some fun in the evening, then the Bahamas has a great party scene, making it a great romantic destination for young couples.
The most romantic thing to do in Bahamas, is to take a sunset cruise and sail towards the stunning gold sunset.
9. St Thomas USVI
One of the islands in the Eastern Caribbean is St Thomas – one of the main islands of the United States Virgin Islands, situated just over 60km away from Puerto Rico.
St Thomas is beyond beautiful, with its lush green hills rising out of ombre blue waters. The beaches are wide and ivory-colored, and the sand is powdery soft. There are over 40 to choose from, so St Thomas really is a great place if you’re looking for a beach vacation.
This Caribbean Island is great for romantic gateways, because of the wide array of couple’s activities it offers. One of the best things you can do with your partner is to take a Sunset Sail or Kayak, if you’re more adventurous.
St Thomas’ Honeymoon Beach is a gorgeous, remote beach that is popular for its stunning sunsets, of course, best enjoyed as a couple!
At night, you can enjoy the exciting nightlife in Charlotte Amalie or a romantic dinner at one of the Red Hook’s beaches.
10. Grenada
One of the southernmost islands in the Caribbean located between Trinidad and Barbados, Grenada is a hidden gem among other islands.
The unspoiled natural beauty makes it one of the best Caribbean islands for couples. At its center, it is covered in volcanic hills and dense jungles, but Grenada’s beaches are long and wide and seem endless.
This Caribbean Island is another great destination for adventure lovers. There are plenty of hiking trails crossing the lush rainforests or taking you to the high summits for amazing views of Grenada’s islets and the long Caribbean Sea.
Grand Anse is the best beach around and is one of the best places on the island to unwind and relax together, with a cocktail in hand.
For active duos, there are many waterfalls hidden in the hills and forests, that offer unspoiled natural beauty and are free of crowds!
11. Dominica
Dominica is just emerging as a tourist destination, yet it’s quickly becoming everyone’s favorite. One of the most mountainous Caribbean islands, it is so abundant in natural beauty that some call it ‘Nature Island of the Caribbean’.
Staggering green cliffs frame the island and continue inland, where you will find plenty of natural hot springs and a steamy Boiling Lake surrounded by lush rainforests.
Soaking in remote, therapeutic hot springs, surrounded by peaceful nature is one of the best things to do out there.
Dominica offers plenty of luxurious villas to unwind in after a day of adventures. These can be found on a remote beach, or deep in the rainforest. So, every couple will find something for themselves. Some romantic experiences include a couple’s massage, a private dinner, or even a private yoga class.
The beaches are stunning too! Most of them are unspoiled, uncrowded pristine beaches that are ideal for kicking back and relaxing within proximity to nature.
12. St Barts
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway in the Caribbean and have a few spare dollars to spend, then heading to St Barths is a must do for couples. At least I think so! Especially after a weekend away there with my boyfriend.
It’s not the easiest island to get to, as you’ll have to fly into one of the other local islands such as Antigua. However, that’s part of the allure and romance of it, like it’s playing hard to get with you!
St Barths has some of the most beautiful beaches that are all just a short drive away, and for me, there’s nothing more romantic than heading out to explore together as a couple.
Hire a quad bike or little jeep and head off together. My favorite beaches were Gouverner Beach, Colombier Beach and the aptly named Shell Beach which is the best spot for having a refreshing drink and watching the sunset.
If you’re there for a few days, you have to head to Grand Cul de Sac Beach as this has the best snorkeling. We saw over 20 turtles and a handful of rays. Plus it’s got a great beach cafe called Ti’ Corail – it was the best fish burger we’d ever eaten!
We happened to have sailed there and stayed on a yacht when we visited. If you’re flying in then there are some incredible luxury resorts to stay in St Barths. I’ve heard that from friends that Eden Rock St Barths is the best of the best for couples seeking and exclusive few nights away.
13. St Kitts + Nevis
In the middle of the Caribbean lies St Kitts & Nevis – a set of two islands that are full of natural beauty and offer a fun nightlife.
This twin island is another romantic island in the Caribbean that is great for couples. The views are incredible and there are many unique activities for you and your partner to enjoy.
If you’re looking for an intimate experience, you can opt for a private picnic on one of the wild beaches. Or if you want to make some fun memories, you can try out kite surfing! There is something for every kind of duo!
Frigate Bay is a large, wide bay with an extensive beach backdropped by stunning mountains. At night, the bay is a great place to go out and socialize.
St Kitts and Navis are home to some of the most spectacular volcanoes in the Caribbean. There is a hiking trail that will take you to the summit of Mount Liamuiga for breathtaking views of the crater.
14. St Maarten
Sint Maarten (not to be confused with its neighbor, Saint Martin) is located east from Puerto Rico.
This is a fun island to head to if you’re a couple looking for a romantic getaway. We were there recently as part of a tour we did island hopping on a yacht from Antigua where we live. It’s busier than some of the other islands and has a lot more going on. It’s got the high energy of ziplines, the romance of beaches as lots in between.
If you’re looking for a relaxing day on the beach and a fabulous dinner then look no further than Grand Case Bay. There you’ll find the best dining on the island, and I can’t recommend Calmos Cafe enough, the food and service were epic. And it’s over-the-water dining which just adds to the romance.
An alternative fun day out as a couple is to head to Lotterie Farm. It’s a collection of cool swimming pools and hot tubs in the center of the island within the rainforest. You can book a private cabana and spend a relaxing day together. If you’re looking for something a little more high energy then there’s also a zipline and high wire course there too!
15. St Croix USVI
St Croix is one of the US Virgin Islands and it is another great destination for a romantic gateway.
It’s full of remote beaches, unique experiences in the outdoors, and exciting nightlife. But most of all, St Croix is a peaceful island with stunning scenery, encompassing lush mountains, secluded beaches, and calm, turquoise blue waters.
One of the most romantic things to do in Saint Croix is a sunset horseback ride along the beach. This is a unique and beautiful experience that will make your romantic gateway in the Caribbean more memorable.
Or you can join a sunset sail with live music for a bit of entertainment during your vacation.
The nearby, Buck Island is world-famous for its spectacular coral reef offering unbelievable snorkeling experience, a must do when in the Caribbean. In fact, Buck Island is my favorite place of anywhere I’ve ever been in the Caribbean (possibly the world, if I’m being honest).
Buck Island’s Turtle Beach is gorgeous and is considered the most beautiful beach in the world.
