Can you drink the water in Turks and Caicos?

Drinking the water in Turks and Caicos is mostly safe, but not in all cases throughout the islands. Unfortunately, there will also be a sacrifice in taste from what you’re used to in the United States.

The safety of drinking the water depends on the water collection processes. This may be by collecting the rainwater, reverse osmosis, or through a desalination process. Either way, the methods are subject to problems that can be improved but are ultimately not recommended.

Although officials of the British Overseas Territory say the answer to “can you drink the water in Turks and Caicos” is yes, the CDC recommends otherwise. This includes the use of ice and other drinks made from tap water.

Is the water safe to drink in Turks and Caicos?

Overall, you’ll be better off sticking with bottled water or properly filtered water to avoid any possibility of suffering from traveler sickness such as diarrhea.

You may be able to get away with drinking the tap water in some areas. This will depend on the island and the location; some resorts may be safer than others.

Whether you’re visiting Grand Turks, South Caicos, North Caicos, or right in Providenciales, the answer to this question may be different. Some Grace Bay Beach resorts may have extra filtration processes to ensure safe drinking water.

I always ask the resort or hotel I’m staying in if it’s safe to drink the water. They’ll always have the best answer for you. If you’re staying in a vacation rental or villa, I would suggest staying away from the tap water. And, it’s safer to ask than risk sickness during your vacation!

If you don’t want to buy bottled water, I’d recommend boiling and then filtering the water through your Water-to-Go bottle in your hotel, family resort, or villa.
